How to add a ‘soft’ return rather than a hard return

In general, when you write paragraphs you go from left to right, hit the far right margin, and then start on the left again.

However, for different reasons, you may want to split the sentence before it gets to the end of the line.

This is called ‘forcing a line break’.

To do this, you use a soft return rather than a hard return.

A Hard return is when you hit Enter to start a new line.

A Soft return is when you press Shift and Enter button to start a new line.

Try it.

Soft returns are often used when writing poems, short sentences, or statements. They give you another option when formatting your documents.
