Count the Number of Pages, Words or Characters in MS Word document

You can count the number of words in a document while you type. In Word, you can count pages, paragraphs, lines, and characters. Here’s how to do it.

There are two ways to find the Word count:

  1. Click the WORDS icon in the status bar at the bottom on the screen. It’s next to the Language setting.
  2. In the Review tab, click Word Count in the Proofing. It’s fourth from the left.

The Word Count dialog box displays the following:

  • Pages
  • Characters (no spaces)
  • Characters (with spaces)
  • Paragraphs
  • Lines

Tip: You can choose to include textboxes, footnotes and endnotes in the statistics.
