[How To] Remove Visual Basic References to Other MS Word Docs

how-to

In MS Word, when using the Visual Basic Editor you can create references to other files.

These references can be deleted so that the next person cannot see the names of the referenced files. You might want to do this for security reasons (if you’re sending the document to a customer) or simply to reduce the file size.

To remove these references, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Word document.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Macro, and then Visual Basic Editor.
  3. Inside the Visual Basic Editor, click the Tools menu, and then References.
  4. Clear the checkbox next to any referenced files. Click OK when finished. how-to-remove-visual-basic-references-to-other-files.JPG
  5. From the File menu, click Save.

FYI: Removing references to other files may stop the macros from performing their tasks.
